Longing for a New Jerusalem
Reading:Revelation 21:10-27
A Year Reading:Genesis 22-24
Nas:Then, in the spirit he took me up a great and high mountain and he showed me the holy city, Jerusalem, down from heaven, from God. (Revelation 21:10)
I love hearing a song called "Oh, Jerusalem" where the lyric passage can inflame believers' longing to be in the New Jerusalem. A glorious city written in the book of Revelation, in which there is no sorrow and tears in it. How is the city doing? What will we find there someday? Who are the people who are denied entry there? We will look at some facts based on the vision received by the Apostle John.
First, the New Jerusalem will descend from heaven, not be formed or established by man. Second, God Himself will be the Temple and the glory of God illuminates it so that it does not require the sun and the moon (vv. 22-23). Third, vile, unclean, and liars will not enter there, but only those whose names are written in the book of life (v. 27). Pretty clear picture isn't it? Surely every believer longs to be allowed to enter and enjoy the beauty of life in the New Jerusalem.
So, in addition to ensuring that we have personally accepted Jesus as Lord and Savior, take care of our lives in such a way that we do not do things that are heinous, unclean, or become liars. Ask for His grace to be poured out day after day, so that we can live a life pleasing to God, and one day be allowed to enjoy the beautiful atmosphere of the New Jerusalem with Christ!
