Expo City Dubai: When Dubai renews its Expo 2020 as a connected city

Since 1 October 2022, the Expo 2020 Dubai site has become Expo City Dubai, a city of the future born from the success of the World Expo, combining high technology and respect for the environment. A city of the future, destined to offer a better living environment to future generations.

Expo 2020 Dubai, a cornerstone of a world under reconstruction

From 1 October 2021 to 31 March 2022, Expo 2020 Dubai, the first-ever World Expo in the Middle East, Africa and South Asia (MEASA), was held. Six months during which the Arabian Gulf Emirate became the center of the world, welcoming 192 countries and some 24 million visitors – with France in 6th place among source markets. A resounding success that is part of the 170-year history of World Exhibitions, the fruit of a solid political and cultural organization. Expo 2020 has been "a real catalyst for business activity," said His Excellency Reem Al Hashimy, UAE Minister of State for International Cooperation and CEO, Expo City Dubai Authority, "while contributing to economic and social progress through its various programmes and initiatives, all aimed at addressing our world's most pressing challenges." Organized in a delicate health context, the Universal Exhibition was also intended to be the symbol of a world in reconstruction, capable of coming together to overcome the hardships and to project itself towards a better future.

Dubai, the future as a legacy

"Connecting minds, building the future" is the theme of Expo 2020. It is in this spirit and on this momentum that Expo City was raised, open since October 1, 2022. A futuristic city dedicated to innovation with three pillars as its foundation: technology, sustainability and people. By choosing to convert 80% of the site of its World Expo, Dubai clearly states its ambitions:"to preserve, manage and build on the tangible and intangible heritage of Expo 2020," confirms Her Excellency Reem Al Hashimy. With its all-pedestrian "campus" feel, high environmental quality buildings, 45,000 m2 of parks and gardens, 10 km of cycle path and 5 km of race track, Expo City Dubai aims to be the banner of "a smarter, more balanced, resilient and sustainable lifestyle.

Some of Expo 2020's landmarks are already open to the public: from the dome of Al Wasl Plaza to the Surreal Water Feature waterfalls, the Garden in the Sky observation tower, as well as the Mobility and Sustainability, Alif and Terra pavilions, two major places of discovery and learning, as well as the Vision and Women's pavilions,  dedicated to the impact of women to create a better world.D’ici à la fin de l’année, l’ensemble des pavillons devrait être ainsi réaffecté, à l’image du pavillon Opportunité bientôt reconverti en musée de l’Expo 2020 Dubai. Lieu de transmission, de culture et de divertissement, Expo City Dubai sera aussi un vaste terrain d’expérimentation professionnelle. By the end of the year, all pavilions should be repurposed, like the Opportunity pavilion soon to be converted into an Expo 2020 Dubai museum. A place of transmission, culture and entertainment, Expo City Dubai will also be a vast field of professional experimentation. "The city offers a multitude of opportunities for companies to join this innovation-driven ecosystem." "Alongside global logistics and technology giants such as DP World, Siemens and Terminus Group, start-ups and small businesses are also expected to participate in the growth of Expo City with a focus on technology, education and health.
